About Us

Years of experience, handled with genuine care.

We've spent many years specialising in one thing: transferring tape to digital formats people can actually use today. In that time we've handled thousands of VHS tapes and camcorder cassettes — home movies, weddings, graduations, and footage of people who are no longer with us.

We know that what arrives in a box marked "old tapes" is rarely just old tapes. It's a first birthday, a wedding speech, a voice you haven't heard in years. Every reel that comes through our door is treated with the same care we'd want for our own family's memories — inspected, cleaned where needed, and transferred by hand rather than run through in bulk.

That combination of experience and care is why customers trust us with tapes they can't afford to lose — and why we've built our whole process around getting it right the first time.

Professional equipment, not shortcuts

  • Broadcast-grade decksEvery format is played back on professional, well-maintained hardware — never a consumer USB dongle — for the cleanest possible signal.
  • Time-base correctionEvery deck we use either has time-base correction (TBC) built in, or the signal is passed through a dedicated external TBC unit before capture, to stabilise jitter, wobble and dropped frames.
  • Inspection & repairEvery reel is checked by hand first. Splicing, cleaning and repairs are carried out before anything is transferred, with charges reflecting the time involved and always confirmed with you before that work begins.
  • Quality checked twiceFootage is reviewed after transfer. If something's not right, we re-run it on different hardware and keep the best result.

The Hardware

Built for accuracy, not speed.

Consumer conversion boxes drop frames and struggle with worn tape. We built our transfer bay around professional-spec playback and capture equipment so your originals are only ever played back once at the highest quality we can achieve.

Why It Matters

Time-base correction: the difference between a clean transfer and a wobbly one.

Analogue tape doesn't play back with perfectly stable timing. Tiny mechanical variations in tape speed and tension mean the video signal coming off a tape is always slightly unstable — a problem that gets worse as tape ages, stretches or wears. A time base corrector (TBC) reads that unstable signal and re-times it into something perfectly consistent before it goes anywhere near a digital capture device.

Without correction, that instability shows up as picture jitter, colour smearing or drift, horizontal tearing, or a signal so unstable that some capture devices can't lock onto it at all — producing dropped frames, flickering, or a recording that simply won't play back cleanly. This is exactly why every deck we use either has TBC built in, or has its output passed through a dedicated external TBC unit before capture — every tape gets this correction as standard, not as an optional extra.

It's a step that's easy to skip and hard to notice is missing until you compare the results side by side.

Why cheap capture devices fall short

  • No TBC hardwareMost budget USB capture dongles and consumer "VHS to digital" converters don't include time-base correction at all — there simply isn't room in the price.
  • Worse results on older or worn tapeWithout correction, exactly the tapes that need the most care — old, worn or slightly damaged ones — are the ones most likely to produce an unwatchable capture.
  • You often don't get a second chanceA fragile tape only has so many safe playbacks left in it. Running it through uncorrected hardware and getting a poor result can mean there's little tape life left to try again properly.
How It Works

Three steps, start to finish.

From the moment your box arrives to the moment your memories land back on your doorstep — here's exactly what happens.

Step 1

Send us your media

Place your order below and send your tapes to us — we'll confirm receipt and log every item against your order the day it arrives.

Step 2

We inspect & transfer

Each item is inspected, gently cleaned or repaired if needed, then carefully transferred on professional hardware and quality-checked before it's approved.

Step 3

Your files come home

Your digital files are delivered on DVD, flash drive or private cloud link — and your original tapes are returned safely alongside them.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Will you return my original tapes?+
Yes, if you'd like them back — just let us know on the order form. We always send returns using a tracked and insured postal service for security, and this postage cost (based on weight and destination) is confirmed as part of your final quote. If you don't need your originals back, let us know and we'll dispose of them responsibly.
What if my tape is damaged or won't play?+
We inspect every item by hand and carry out cleaning and repairs where possible before transfer. There's an additional charge for this work, reflecting the amount of time involved, and we always confirm the cost with you before going ahead. If something can't be recovered, we'll always let you know rather than guess. If your tape squeals or feels tacky, see our guide to sticky shed syndrome.
Can I get more than one copy of my finished files?+
Yes — you can choose any combination of DVD, flash drive and cloud storage on the order form, or ask for multiple copies of the same format.
How long does the transfer process take?+
Small orders are typically completed within 1–2 weeks of us receiving your media. We'll keep you updated by email at each stage.
Do you offer photo, slide or music transfer?+
No — we specialise exclusively in tape to digital conversion, which is where we focus all of our equipment and expertise.
